How does an elephant trunk work?
Keeping this in view, how strong is an elephant trunk?
An elephant’s trunk has eight major muscles on either side and 150,000 muscle bundles in all. It is so strong that it can push down trees and lift a whopping 700,000 pounds.
Likewise, what does an elephant trunk feel like? The trunk is both extremely delicate and extremely strong. The African elephant has two finger-like tips at the end of it’s trunk that it uses to clasp smaller objects. The trunk is so delicate it is at times used to wipe or clean their eyes.
Secondly, what’s inside an elephant’s trunk?
The trunk is composed of 140kgs of flesh, fat, nerves, connective tissue, and over 40 000 muscles grouped around the nasal passages. These taper down to two fingers in the case of African elephants and one finger for Asian elephants. Functionally, the muscles are what give the trunk its versatility.
Can elephants break their trunks?
In the trunk of the elephants there are also two nostrils, through which the elephants breathe. But the elephants can also soak up up to 8 litres of water into these nostrils and then blow it into their mouth. But, unlike people think sometimes by mistake, they do not drink the water directly through their trunks.
